A school district in Iowa plans to end stand-alone accelerated courses in most of its middle schools as it shifts to a mastery-based grading system. The Pennsylvania Department of Education will allow Pittsburgh Public Schools to continue using a system that sets a higher bar for teachers' evaluations than the state and other school districts.
