Study connects math, social skills to higher earnings
Students who are good at math -- and who are involved in social activities -- may earn more over time, according to a recent study. Researchers studied outcomes for a group of students over a 20-year period and found that the students who had a combination of math and social skills reported higher earnings. A Virginia school district this year is launching what could be a model for new schools going forward -- housing kindergarten through eighth-grade students in one building. The district has opened a $28.4 million general attendance school, which officials say will, for various reasons, help improve academic achievement among students. Every sixth- through eighth-grade student at a New Jersey school is involved in the campus farm, where students work to harvest food used in the school cafeteria.
