Some states introduce data coaches in schools
Some states, such as Delaware, Rhode Island and Hawaii, are using Race to the Top funds to hire data coaches. Fla. schools adopt financial-literacy standards
Florida educators this year are teaching financial-literacy skills after the state board of education adopted the National Standards for Financial Literacy. Under the change, students must pass a high-school economics course before graduation, and financial lessons are being introduced as early as elementary school. The Daytona Beach News-Journal (Fla.) Report shows international gaps, differences in state standards
State-developed academic standards vary by as much as four grade levels among those with the highest and lowest standards, according to a report from the American Institutes for Research. The report analyzed fourth- and eighth-graders' performance on international tests and state standards -- in most cases, the percentage of students deemed by the state as proficient dropped when compared with international standards.
