Federal program promotes teacher residencies in STEM instruction
The federal government has awarded $35 million in Teacher Quality Partnership grants to 24 colleges and school districts to improve math and science education. Among the recipients are Fresno Unified School District and Fresno State University in California, which have created residencies to train educators in instructing science, technology, engineering and math in grades K-12. Alaska education board may raise number of math courses
The Alaska State Board of Education is considering a proposal to require students to take an additional year of math before graduation. The proposal would increase the current requirement of two math credits to three. Forty-five of the state's 54 districts already require students to take three math credits.
